This Palm Sunday, to open and close the service, we are singing, “Hosanna, Hosanna, You are the God who saves us, worthy of all our praises. Hosanna, Hosanna, come have your way among us; we welcome you here Lord Jesus (Hosanna, Paul Baloche).” On Palm Sunday, we remember and imitate Christ’s Disciples who worshiped and cried out to Jesus the Sunday before His crucifixion and resurrection, “Hosanna in the Highest (Mark 11:10).” So it is fitting that the Sunday before Resurrection Sunday, we should take some time to sing Hosanna in worship to our Savior.
One account of this event is found in Luke's Gospel.“As he was drawing near—already on the way down the Mount of Olives—the whole multitude of his disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works that they had seen, saying, “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” And some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, rebuke your disciples.” He answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the very stones would cry out.” - Luke 19:37-40
What a glorious truth it is that our God and King is so magnificent and worthy of praise that if His people are silent, the very stones will cry out His praise. The other accounts of this event say that the people cried out Hosanna, which means Savior, and how could they not. The Salvation of our God is so powerful and profound a truth that it baffles the mind to think how it is not on our lips every waking hour. That God would condescend to earth so that He could live a perfect life and die a substitutionary death for all those who believe in Him; should cause us to shout out in praise and proclamation, declaring His name to all the earth. So this will be the prayer that we sing on Sunday through the modern Hymn “Let the Nations be Glad” by Matt Boswell and his brother Aaron.
"Let the glory of the Lord forever be our joy
May redemption be the theme of our song
For by grace we have been saved
And by grace we shall proclaim
To the corners of the earth that Christ is come
Let the nations be glad
Let the people rejoice
For salvation belongs to our God
Let the whole earth be filled
With the praises of the Lord
For salvation belongs to our God
Let the nations be glad"
Grace and Peace be with you,
Pastor Levi
