This week we are singing a new song written by Cody Carnes and Matt Mayer called Run to the Father. The Chorus lays out a profound proclamation of finding our comfort in our God. There will always be hardship and struggle on some level in our lives and the lives around us throughout the whole world. God’s original design in the garden, in the beginning, was not like this, and God’s design for the new heavens and new earth to come will not be like this either. God “will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away (Revelation 21:4).” However, while we are on earth, we will still experience these hardships and shall even cause hurt in our life because of our residing sinful nature. The only thing we can do is run to God and fall into His Grace, experience His healing, and be comforted in His friendship. Jesus says in Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” As we reflect on and proclaim this truth this Sunday, my prayer is that we will all find rest in Jesus.
